Queenstown School of Dance offering technical Jazz and Ballet examination dance classes since 2007. QSD classes provide students with solid technical training, performance training, and the platform to create, achieve and grow as a dancer and artist. “My girls have been dancing with Queenstown School of Dance since they were 7 years of age and my association with the school spans 13 years. It is a real testament to Anna and her team of talented teachers that their students return year after year particularly when there are so many other sports and activities for children to get involved in outside of school. The dance school offers a supportive and inclusive learning environment, but also one where no nonsense is tolerated and the children are encouraged to be the best dancers they can be – both great disciplines to instil in children from a young age. The dedication of the students and quality of teaching is evident in the consistently high examination marks achieved and the end of year show which is always a highlight.”
BALLET – La Beauté Ballet Syllabus
Queenstown School of Dance is excited to introduce La Beauté Ballet; a syllabus that brings a fresh approach to ballet whilst retaining all the discipline and technique of traditional ballet. Fundamentally, La Beauté ballet enables the millennial dancer to have a strong classical foundation whilst being versatile across all dance genres. It is optional but recommended for serious dancers from school years 3-8, to also enrol in a Conditioning class.
JAZZ – Jazzaddict Syllabus
The Jazzaddict syllabus contains classical technique, technical warm-ups, travelling progressions and routines that involve various steps, turns, jumps and floorwork. We train students in lyrical dance, musical theatre, impromptu and student choreography. Setting a solid base for those students wishing to continue dance on as a career. As this is a technical class it is compulsory for all school year 3-8s to also enrol in a Conditioning class. Jazz classes are only 45mins as most of the core technical work will be taught in the conditioning class. In term 3 the classes will extend to 90mins as students prepare for their exams.
BROADWAY BABY – Encore Theatre Dance Syllabus
Queenstown School of Dance is excited to introduce Musical Theatre Classes. Encore Theatre Dance was created; to build performance confidence, develop understanding of dramatic role-playing, teach character immersion and educate students of the history and evolution of musical theatre styles. This is an exam class which involves singing / lip synching, acting and dance. The examinations are marked predominantly on performance. The focus is on achieving conviction of character and confident role playing. *Due to a full timetable we are only offering this for school year 1&2s. At this age, students don’t need to be training in another form of technical dance (although it is beneficial). We hope to grow these classes in the future but as the levels progress, students will need to be learning jazz, ballet or contemporary.
Technique is the basis of all fundamentals of dance, from holding your body correctly while performing, to executing skills properly in a routine. Strong technique extends across all areas of dance. This class is made up of exercises using props to help dancers improve their turn out, body alignment, leg and foot strength and extension, upper body stability, turn and leap skills. There are two trained teachers in every class. This is a compulsory class for all Jazz Dancers and recommended to all serious ballet and contemporary dancers. Conditioning classes run term 1, 2 and 4
